Most people agree that stress can be dangerous to your health.  Even medical doctors cannot deny the havoc that excessive stress can wreak on a person’s mental and physical health.  And not only does stress affect our personal lives, it also affects our professional lives.  In fact, according to a study by Northwestern National Life, one-fourth of employees view their jobs as the number one stressor in their lives.

This course discusses how stress can ultimately impact our performance and productivity through the excessive pressures and expectations that our jobs demand. It focuses on how to identify factors that contribute to stress at work, what the consequences of stress are, and how to control and minimize the effects of stress.

To increase managers’ and supervisors’ knowledge of factors that contribute to stress in the workplace, to demonstrate the consequences that stress can have on your company, and to help you control and minimize the negative effects of stress in your workplace. 

After completing this course, the learner will be able to:

  • define stress and dispel misconceptions about stress;
  • identify and describe the causes of stress;
  • discuss the physical, psychological, behavioral, and organizational effects of stress; and
  • summarize the three most effective responses to stress (a stress management program, improving workplace conditions, and the responsibility of managers and supervisors).
